Love At First Chapter + Giveaway

It’s only the middle of January and I’m already counting down the days until Spring. The bitter cold isn’t a friend of mine, especially as the heat in my apartment seems to be on holiday.  What’s more exciting than a countdown to Spring? A countdown to a new release!

As I nestled through a week of below zero temps, I took to social media and Netflix to distract my freezing self. I happened upon a tweet from Hannah Beckerman, with a link to the first chapter of her book, The Dead Wife’s Handbook, to be released February 13, 2014.

The blurb, as retrieved  from Amazon:

The Dead Wife’s Handbook is the stunning emotional debut from author Hannah Beckerman. ‘Today is my death anniversary. A year ago today I was still alive.’ Rachel, Max and their daughter Ellie had the perfect life – until the night Rachel’s heart stopped beating. Now Max and Ellie are doing their best to adapt to life without Rachel, and just as her family can’t forget her, Rachel can’t quite let go of them either. Caught in a place between worlds, Rachel watches helplessly as she begins to fade from their lives. And when Max is persuaded by family and friends to start dating again, Rachel starts to understand that dying was just the beginning of her problems. As Rachel grieves for the life she’s lost and the life she’ll never lead, she learns that sometimes the thing that breaks your heart might be the very thing you hope for. Hannah Beckerman gives an unforgettable exploration of love and loss in her first novel, The Dead Wife’s Handbook. Praise for The Dead Wife’s Handbook: “Beautifully written and full of love”. (Fern Britton). Hannah Beckerman is a former TV and film producer living in London. The Dead Wife’s Handbook is her first novel.

I was intrigued by the title and so I read the chapter. And then I cried and the tears formed little icicles on my face. Alright, that last part is a bit of a fib but in all seriousness, I was floored by how much I love this first chapter. In a brief 15 pages, Hannah was able to tug at my semi-frozen heartstrings and make me care about Max, Ellie and Rachel. By now, of course, you’re dying to read the chapter too.  But before you do, you’ll need a box of tissues and a pillow. No, the pillow isn’t to make you comfy while you read, though that might work too. Its purpose is to scream into once you’ve realized that you must wait to read the rest of the chapters.

Okay. Now that you’ve read it, your next question, quite likely, is, What shall I do with my life now?! Ha, I’ve come prepared. You can pre-order, as if you haven’t done so already, here. And check out Hannah’s website, twitter and enter my Rafflecopter giveaway for a chance to win a copy of The Dead Wife’s Handbook. (Open internationally!!)

Is it a bit presumptuous of me to declare my love for what amounts to 3% (if my math is correct) of a book? Maybe. Much like falling in love with a movie from a poster or a 10 second preview of a song, or perhaps the one viewed as the most unrealistic, love at first sight. What can I say? Sometimes, you just know.
